Writers – A Strange Brew…

How do you like my Rogue Cloud Genie? I grabbed this shot on my iPhone while riding my bicycle home from work one day. At the time, I knew I would use the pic somewhere. Now, months later, I see the perfect marriage of picture and text – at least from my somewhat warped perspective.

We, the Rogues Gallery Writers are a writing mastermind group that meets every week so that we may impact our world in some Roguish manner. We’ve written memoirs, poetry, short stories, long stories, literary fiction, murder mysteries, romantic pieces, violent pieces, yes – sexual pieces. Up until now, though, we have not all contributed to the same story.

The Method Writers has been a journey into writing Nirvana. We are four writers dedicated to a project, all contributing our unique skills and incredible insights into a novel for you, the reader, to enjoy. We’ve put a ton of effort into creating something not only readable, but intriguing and enjoyable.

The genie is here to oversee our Kickstarter.com project. We decided to give this book a proper launch but found we have no finances with which to take on this grand and noble task. So we looked to Kickstarter to help us out. And the genie. We cannot leave out the genie…

Kickstarter is a site that helps fund projects like ours. I don’t know if you realize this or not, but it takes a little money to get a book started off properly where it has a chance to be breathed into the public consciousness. At Kickstarter, people like you go there to look at projects and then pledge some financial assistance to said project.

You DO get something in return. We don’t let you walk away empty handed. When you go out to Kickstarter and pledge some assistance to our project (The Method Writers), you will receive a reward. For every level of donation to our project, there is a corresponding reward related to the project for those who pledge.

Just ‘liking’ our project does not really help all that much other than moral support. What we need is for everyone who likes what we are doing to commit to pledging something. Heck, we have 23 different rewards for the varying amounts of pledges. Pledge one dollar (c’mon, you can do that!) you will receive a bookmark with the cover of the book on it. For $30, get a copy of the book hot off the presses! Want the book autographed by all four authors? C’mon! You can spring for $20 more!

Remember, these pledges are to help us get the book printed AND a level of marketing and promotion. Check us out by clicking on this link: The Method Writers. Keep in mind, the Rogue Genie is watching over us (and you!) to help this project get life and fly. We really do need your help. Go out and claim your reward by pledging to our project. Watch the video and read about what is involved in this project and we believe you will feel great about helping out!

Project Launch! Watch Our Smoke!

The day has arrived – October 5, 2011. The Rogues Gallery Writers will sit down at 7:00pm, eat some    Chinese, discuss final tweaks to the plan, then gather around the mouse. Yes, the wireless mouse of a laptop. The four of us will place our forefingers on the left-click button and press as one.

The occasion happens to be the launch of our Kickstarter.com project. This project is the culmination of months of work and preparation. We’ve written a novel, blogged loads of blogs, Facebooked as many posts as is respectable, and we’ve made short films. Videos of silliness and seriousness about our baby, our novel – The Method Writers.

The Rogues recently gathered at the Florida Heritage Book Festival in St. Augustine, Florida. We had a great time, sold a few books, and generally got our name out to John Q. Public a bit more. This notoriety we’re building is not by accident.

What we need most at the moment is precisely that – a moment of your time. Drawing attention to your book project these days is a labor, albeit one of love. Kickstarter.com is a place where benevolent people go and pledge monetary support to creative projects. We own one such project – The Method Writers.

We are looking for funding to produce a 5000 print run of the book as well as funds to cover the editing and some marketing of the book. Acquiring the assistance of anyone and everyone we know as well as those they know as well as people THEY know is critical to getting funding of this nature. Please take a moment to click on the above links to our project, or heck, use this one (www.kickstarter.com), and watch our video, read over our project and pledge some money to help us launch this book properly.

With all the books being published these days, the ones that make enough noise get noticed. We cannot make noise without your help. Each individual person who pledges funds to our project, lifts us up. One of the great aspects of Kickstarter.com is the fact that you, the Pledge, receive something in return. You receive a piece of the project in the form of Rewards. We have set up 23 Rewards for our Pledges based on their level of giving. We believe there is a satisfactory Reward for each level of pledge.

Yes, you get a piece of the project as well as the pleasure of contributing to the launch of an ambitious new novel. We believe what we created in The Method Writers is viable, entertaining and well-worth launching into the world. Won’t you please click on over to Kickstarter.com now and pledge to the project right now? If we do not reach our target money in 45 days, we will get nothing and no pledges will be collected. That would be a travesty.

We look forward to thanking each and every one of our Pledges once we hit our target! The Rogues Gallery Writers ask also that you contact everyone you know and send them to our project at Kickstarter.com. We obviously require the help of many. We humbly thank you for your participation in our project and we sincerely hope you will be rewarded by your assistance!

The Rogues Gallery Writers, Masters of Puppets …

Fictional author David Haas, played by a soccer sock

Sock puppets, that is!!! Yes, this past Wednesday night, during a Rogues Gallery Writers’ meeting, we decided to try something different (who us?) for our next promotional video. We’d each picked out our sock of choice and recreated scenes from our new novel, The Method Writers, using said socks to portray the main characters from our novel!!!

To the left, you’ll see the sock version of my Method Writers‘ character, David Haas. I picked out a black soccer sock to portray him, which seemed fitting for a writer who’s leading fictional character is the vigilante bad boy, Kenny Black. Yes, my character created a character. It may seem hard to grasp, but I think it will all make sense once you begin to read our book.

So, on Wednesday night, the four Rogues were lying on the floor, crammed under Nancy’s dining room table, with our sock-adorned hands dancing above the table, acting out two scenes from The Method Writers, both of which bring all four of our characters together for their regular writers group meetings at the “Koffee Korral.” I’ll be editing the videos soon and hope to get them out for your viewing pleasure in the near future!

We also had a 2nd camera rolling for a potential behind the scenes video of our sock shoot. And speaking of Rogues videos, we already have a few promo videos posted out on our YouTube account, including scenes from our soon to be released mockumentary, Behind the Prose. Check them out–you’re sure to have a few laughs … at our expense: Rogues YouTube account

Stay tuned,

Jeff
